“♫ When The Dog Bites…”
The CDC has stated that around 4.5 million people are bitten by dogs every year, and about 1 in 5 of those victims (885,000) seek medical attention from these bites. In fact, in 2012, over 27,000 dog bite victims underwent reconstructive surgery as a direct result of the dog attack. Very clearly, these numbers show that this is a very serious matter and something to be wary of.
Any time a dog attacks and bites a victim, the event is traumatic–physically and emotionally. This is heightened when a child is the victim. The long-lasting physical injuries like permanent scarring, nerve damage, etc. can be extremely serious and could even lead to death. There may also be psychological damage that comes along with the injuries to the flesh.
